Husband of Rachel Ward Cooksey. Son of Fred “Joe” and Gladys Cooksey. Gene was born and raised in Waukeenah, FL. Attended and graduated from Jefferson County High School in Monticello, FL. The youngest of five boys! Brother of Robert, James A. (Buckshot), Franklin, and Paul. He was a retired farmer and self-employed businessman. A Jefferson County Commissioiner for 32 years. Served in the US Navy on USS Midway 1959 to 1963. Has one son, Jessie, Jr. and two daughters, Jeanna and Miranda. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Loved his family, hunting and fishing as well as talented in fixing things.
