Thomson, William Frederick
03/21/1941 - 11/26/2024
William Frederick (Fred) Thomson passed away Tuesday, November 26th in Tallahassee after an extended battle with cancer. Fred was born on March 21, 1943, in Gainesville, Florida to William Henry and Marjorie Stump Thomson. He graduated from Monticello High School and attended the University of Florida before graduating from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1965. He was admitted to the Beta Gamma Sigma business honorary society.
Fred worked as a staff accountant in a CPA firm in Titusville, FL until 1969, then moved back to Tallahassee to continue in the practice of accounting. He became a partner in a local Tallahassee firm in 1971, left to become a sole proprietor in 1972, and was a founding partner of what is now Thomson Brock Luger & Company in 1974. He moved to an ‘of counsel’ status with the firm in 2005 after forty years of accounting practice experience at that time.
While Fred was involved with many non-profit organizations in Tallahassee, he was most proud of his decades of service as a teacher, counselor, and mentor for generations of people looking to grow in their knowledge of the Lord, improve their marriage, or expand their faith. His life was characterized by his love of God, his dedication to the study of God’s word, and his commitment to serving his fellow man. He leaves a legacy of having touched the lives of so many in our community. He poured himself into his ministry work and always made himself available to those who sought his guidance.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Fred loved nothing more than enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.
Fred is survived by Ruth Anne, the love of his life for fifty-eight years, his son, Todd and his grandchildren, Irelyn, Bryre, and Covington. He is also survived by siblings Marjorie Jacobs, Evelyn Ezzell, and Henry Thomson along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral on Thursday, December 5 at 2:00 PM.
